The FLIGHT HEAD XL is a new stabilized camera remote system; it is a larger version of the standard FLIGHT HEAD designed and developed to handle and stabilize the heavier and larger camera packages. The FLIGHT HEAD XL can accommodate 3D camera rigs like the PACE and PARADISE FX, ET and almost any ARRI or PANAVISON 35mm camera packages with 1000' magazines and long heavy lenses such as ‘Optimo 24-290mm’ and ‘Arri Master Zoom 16.5-110mm’.
The ‘FLIGHT HEAD XL’s’ unique gyro stabilised system reduces the problem of jerks, jumps or bumps, ensuring an extremely smooth picture can be achieved.
The pan gyro gives what some camera operators often refer to as a "smart pan" facility which compensates for the movement of the crane arm when being boomed left to right, leaving the ‘FLIGHT HEAD XL’ pointing in the same direction with little or no intervention from the controls. The other gyros also compensate for the movement on the tilt and roll axes which keep them level and stabilised which is useful when shooting on a moving vehicle, boat or areal ‘wire-cam rig’ (with a ‘Wireless Link’ hired separately). This allows greater response and control for the camera operator when shooting a television concert or high speed chases, as the camera operators don’t need to compensate as if they were using a non gyro-stabilised remote-head.
The ‘FLIGHT HEAD XL’s unique design also makes this the only 3 axis head to do a 340 degree roll with a 1000ft magazine (35mm) and some 3D camera rig’s. This 3 axis head is also light enough to use on both the telescopic cranes and modular cranes to make the most of its potential reach and lens height. The ‘FLIGHT HEAD XL’ has a hole through the pan axis which allows for maximum compatibility of all HD camera cables to camera without limiting movement of the head.
